It’s not just old books and Latin. At The River, classical education means teaching students how to think, not just what to think. In the early years, that looks like memorization, recitation, and joyful exploration. As students grow, they engage in Socratic dialogue, read whole works that are time-tested, study logic and rhetoric, and practice persuasive writing and public speaking—all within a Christ-centered worldview.

Yes. We offer AP and honors courses—still taught classically. By junior and senior year, students can build a competitive transcript while continuing to grow in character, conviction, and clarity.

Yes—and intentionally so. Our upper grades are academically challenging, with a focus on synthesis and integration, public speaking, and critical thinking. Two former college professors teach in our upper school, and The River alumni regularly outperform their peers in writing and reasoning.

But we don’t believe in burying students with busywork. Our rigor is thoughtful, not overwhelming—designed to stretch students without burning them out. It’s deep, integrated learning that forms wisdom, not just transcripts.

With grace and truth. Our teachers and staff are deeply relational and intentional. When conflict arises, we guide students toward heart-level growth—not just behavior management. Discipline is rooted in Scripture and aims at restoration rather than shame.

They can—and they thrive. The River’s students play on local high school teams, take part in community arts programs, and pursue extracurriculars that match their interests and gifts. On campus, we offer middle school basketball and volleyball, and we’re expanding our musical offerings—including violin and piano lessons taught by one of the Valley’s top instructors.

While we don’t offer every program in-house, our families find creative ways to plug in to the myriad extracurricular activities outside of our community such as Stage Kids, dance, cross country and track, lacrosse, baseball, and much more—and we’re always working to grow what’s available here, too.

As an independent Christian school, we’re not funded by a larger denomination or church network. That means our tuition reflects the actual cost of providing a high-quality, Christ-centered education—led by deeply invested teachers, with small class sizes and a rich academic and spiritual foundation.

We’re actively building partnerships with churches, businesses, and individuals who believe in what we’re doing—and want to help make it possible for more families. In fact, some families have even invited their church or employer to sponsor part of their tuition as a way to invest in the next generation.
