A Brief History

The River Academy opened its doors in the fall of 1998 with a handful of families and twelve students in grades three through six. Their purpose was to serve parents by providing a rigorous Christ-centered education, steeped in Western Culture*, preparing their children to view every area of life and learning in the light of God's Word, to be fruitful, and ever increasing in the knowledge of God.

The founding board members and families envisioned a school which honored God and encouraged its students to grow up into the fullness of Christ as his disciples. The Lord led this fledgling group to consider and adopt the classical and Christian model of education, which was being promoted by the Association of Classical and Christian Schools.

Operating in several classrooms located in the basement of Wenatchee Valley Baptist Church, the school began to educate those 12 students utilizing this classical and Christian approach.  Following this small but productive year, the school began to see continual growth.  By 2000 we hired our first upper school teacher with an eye for offering courses to middle and high school students and by 2005 we achieved that goal, hosting our first graduation with 5 students.

While still operating in the Wenatchee Valley Baptist Church, we now occupy their entire education wing which hosts our ever growing and expanding school.  We are grateful to the Lord for the numerous ways he has matured our school, and look forward to continuing to serve our community with excellent, Christ-centered and classical education.  We now offer instruction for grades Preschool to 12.

The River Academy is a member of the Association of Classical and Christian Schools - (ACCS). The ACCS was started in 1993 by Logos School in Moscow, Idaho and has grown to include more than 130 schools worldwide.

*Western Culture refers to that culture affected historically by the influence of Christianity.
